Global Safety Net announced as finalist for Anthem Award
One Earth's "Global Safety Net: a ‘blueprint’ to save critical ecosystems and stabilize the Earth’s climate" has been named a finalist in the Sustainability, Environment, & Climate category in the Inaugural Anthem Awards Social Impact Celebration.
The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), who is behind the well-known Webby Awards which celebrates “excellence on the Internet,” has launched a second award, The Anthem Awards, which honors “purpose and mission-driven work.”
The Global Safety Net, nominated in the Best Strategy category, it is the first comprehensive global-scale analysis of terrestrial areas essential for biodiversity and climate resilience, totaling 50.4% of the Earth's land. The report was published in Science Advances and highlights the importance of protecting and restoring the natural world to address three converging crises -- climate change, the loss of biodiversity, and the emergence of novel viruses such as COVID-19.
Data compiled for the Global Safety Net (GSN1) is available through an interactive web application developed by One Earth in partnership with Google Earth Engine.
IADAS with help from the world’s leading purpose-driven brands and not-for-profits will shepherd The Anthem Awards in its inaugural year. Foundational partners include The Ad Council, GLAAD, Born This Way Foundation, NRDC, Mozilla, World Wildlife Fund, and XQ Institute. The Anthem Awards seeks to recognize the best companies and work driving impact in seven key categories: diversity, equity, and inclusion; education; arts and culture; health, human and civil rights; humanitarian action and services; responsible technology and sustainability; and climate and environment.
The Anthem Awards were launched in response to the prevalence social good has taken within the national conversation and cultural zeitgeist in recent years. The inaugural competition received nearly 2,500 entries from 36 countries worldwide. By amplifying the voices that spark global change, the Anthem Awards are defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to take action in their communities.
A portion of program revenue will fund a new grant program supporting emerging individuals and organizations working to advance the causes recognized in the inaugural Anthem Awards. Their focus ranges from digital to grassroots organizing, fundraising, awareness campaigns, and launching of social movements.
Winners for the inaugural Anthem Awards will be announced on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, and celebrated at the first annual Anthem Voices virtual conference as well as at a star-studded virtual Awards Show on Monday, February 28, 2022. Supporters will be able to watch the virtual show on-demand featuring special moments, and hallmark Speeches from all the Winners.
